"...a Swim Magician!"

Swimmers

Future swimmers come to Char at a wide variety of ages. Each has unique physical and emotional attributes and abilities, as well as individual life experiences that influence them as they learn to swim. All of these things are taken into consideration when Char's students are placed in a class.

With over 50 years of experience, Char is quickly attuned to the needs of the swimmer and understands the situation that will most effectively bring about maximum and lasting success for them. From time to time, Char may recommend moving the swimmer from one class into another. This is ALWAYS because improvement is the expected outcome.

It is entirely normal for little ones to be anxious and even frightened when taking lessons for the first time. You can expect three days of tears. Please don't be overly concerned about this. Char is accustomed to this and will quickly earn her student's trust. The most helpful thing you can do as a parent is to sit on the deck where your child can see you and read a book, visit with another parent, or involve yourself in some other activity. It is vital that your child can see you, but ultimately CRUCIAL that you do NOT make eye contact or respond in any way to their cries and protests. By the end of the first week, this power struggle is usually over and Char's new student will begin enjoying their swimming experience.

Special Needs

With a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Brigham Young University (1980) and a Master's Degree in Counseling Psychology (1984), Char incorporates her years of education in Behavioral Psychology into her swim training to achieve maximum results for her students. She excels at working with students with special needs and physical handicaps.

Please inform Char in your initial contact if an incoming student has physical or mental handicaps or has experienced a trauma related to the water. It will help Char to place them correctly, which will in turn enable them to progress as quickly as possible.
